Our community

London School of Mosaic opened in September 2017 in Gospel Oak, Camden. The school’s social mission continues to be working with vulnerable people (young, older and with different abilities) by increasing access to the Arts, creating civic space, improving neighbourhoods and transforming our public realm for all to enjoy.

In a given week the school runs a variety of outreach activities including a workshop for Camden's Youth Offending Service, free clay-making and drawing classes for over 65's (with lunch and chat included) and a free session for people from our local estate to come together and make mosaics. Over the summer we run a Summer School in which kids and youth clubs come to learn mosaic and decorate the community garden under our big shade sails.

The London School of Mosaic is home to 8 resident Artists who use our space to create, as well as the Gospel Oak Clay Cooperative and a Screen Printing group. Two charities rent space on our site, the Hubert Von Herkomer Foundation and Little Hands Design bringing their own groups to the space.

The school has an active group of volunteers as well as two apprentices from the local area.

On site, there is a community canteen, Mother, serving affordable meals and holding themed events (carnival (August), Oktoberfest (late September), Halloween (October) and Diwali (November) to appeal to a broader cross-section of the wider community.

Most importantly, we run an open door policy. If you are interested in mosaic, in need of somewhere to come on a regular basis, or want to be a positive force in your local area- pop your head in and enquire, this is how lots of us initially found out about the school.
