Short Course Proposals
We would like to get creative with a broader, bolder short course offering.
We have a loyal community of returning students who are hungry for new opportunities to learn. We also plan to start marketing our courses more broadly and therefore want to be ready with courses to appeal to new potential students.
New courses could explore materials, different applications for mosaic, different subjects, the relationship between mosaic and other media, aspects of mosaic heritage and more.
Courses could be aimed at experienced practitioners, hobbyists, beginners, older people, younger people, groups with additional needs or could be suitable for one-off occasions or seasonal events. We are open to any and all suggestions, provided they meet a good quality standard for delivery and we are able to attract students to the course.
We anticipate all courses would be taught in our large, well-equipped studio and tutors would have limited access to support from the studio-coordinator as needed. Classes can be run on weekdays and at weekends, in the day and in the evening.
The studio is equipped with nippers, hammers and hardies and cutting and grinding machines. We have a good stock and range of colours in ceramic and vitreous glass tile, marble, smalti and crockery, adhesives and grouts. By agreement, it is possible for us to provide wood and wediboard substrates, brown paper and mesh cut to size. There are printing and copying facilities, wood workshop and kiln on site and access to power and sinks/sump in the studio itself.
Our minimum requirements for you to teach a new course at the school are:-
You are eligible to work in the UK
You are a proficient mosaicist or arts practitioner in your own right
You have prior experience of teaching or are able to demonstrate that you have gained the skills necessary to do so by other means
To propose a new course, please complete the short course proposal form found here, and tutor application form found here, and email both to info@lsomosaic.com. We are happy to receive applications in any other format that you prefer, but please ensure you cover ALL the information requested in the two forms, otherwise we may not be able to consider your proposal.
If you would like to discuss your ideas or need more information to finalise your proposal, please call Jo Lewis on 07920 027812.
Next steps
We will consider all proposals received by Sunday 16 February for our 2025 provision. We will consider proposals collectively so that we can develop a rounded offering that makes effective and efficient use of our facilities and allows us to offer a variety of courses. We will continue to consider new proposals after this date, but cannot guarantee we will be able to include them in our 2025 offering.
If we consider your proposal viable, we may invite you to visit the school so that we can work out the finer detail of how your proposal would work. We may ask you to teach a short taster session and to bring two examples (or images) of your own work with you and talk to us about how you could use them as a teaching resource. We will also request that you provide a relevant professional reference and evidence of your identity and right to work in the UK.
