Mosaic design: concept and realisation (30 credits)

Term 1: Design elements and colour theory

• Introduction to drawing for mosaic design

• Introduction to colour theory and colour mixes for mosaic

• Introduction to andamento styles (Roman, Byzantine, Modern etc.)

Term 2: Considerations of material and installation

• Techniques for image transfers and scaling

• Working with sections and preparation for installation including labelling and marking out

• Introduction to material composition and considerations

• Designing and making a Guilloche

Term 3: Submission of design project for assessment

• Develop and submit an independent design project
