Mosaic fabrication: techniques and application (60 credits)

Term 1: Using natural stone such as marble

• Introduction to the studio, health and safety and organisation of materials and tools

• Making Roman copies with marble and natural stones, training in the use of hammer and hardie as well as understanding different bases and fixing techniques

Term 2: Using smalti and modern materials

• Making a mosaic with smalti

• Development of a project for the school’s exterior

Term 3: Fabrication project

• independent work on a final project supported by tutorials

• Finishing and framing for small mosaic projects
